Description
Professional management of design activities related to the County’s Transportation Improvement Program.
Public Works Engineering.
**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.
Essential Functions
Plans, manages, and organizes design projects including the oversight of related Consultant Contracts.
Plans, estimates, and implements design Consultant contracts and create related Scopes of Service.
Participates in review of design development and plans.
Provides presentations at public meetings and other meetings with public groups and associations.
Serves as a liaison for FDOT projects within the County.
Ability to evaluate information, make decisions and coordinate programs efficiently.
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.
Prepares in-house preliminary project designs and cost estimates for feasibility and budgeting of various infrastructure project requests.
Experience with Florida Department of Transportation Specifications and Design Standards.
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years’ progressive professional engineering experience in public works/transportation administration and construction. Must possess registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or have the ability to obtain licensure within six months of the date of hiring and maintain registration throughout term of employment. Must maintain a valid Florida drivers’ license.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering. Considerable knowledge of engineering design and transportation issues. Ability to evaluate information, make decisions and coordinate programs efficiently. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various groups and individuals. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with, other County staff and the general public.
Performs in-house project design. Utilizes Bentley Open Roads software in the design and production of plans. Working knowledge of Roadway design. Has the ability and knowledge to create horizontal and vertical geometry for utilization in 3D modeling.
Experience with utility coordination and certification of projects.
Experience in permitting projects through the St. Johns River Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Army Corp of Engineers.
Ability to identify project Right-of-Way needs and coordinate with Consultants and County personnel to obtain project Right-of-Way.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
